Welcome to ECTI 2026! You will be able to register for individual workshop sessions on Monday during our intention setting session.

Wednesday July 29, 2026 1:15pm - 2:45pm CDT
Caregiver communication is key to student success. When caregivers feel seen, heard, and known by their child’s teacher, their child benefits. But what happens when caregivers don’t share your language?  Drawing on 10+ years of experience serving as a bridge between schools and families, a district translator and interpreter shares the do’s and dont’s of communicating with linguistically diverse families, working with multilingual colleagues, and using online resources and tools. This workshop will build your confidence, break down barriers, and you will leave with practical tools aimed at making your communication more effective and meaningful.

In this session, you will:
  • Reflect on areas of discomfort in communicating with parents and come up with strategies to overcome those discomforts.
  • Learn about the pros and cons of different translation and interpretation tools and how to use them.
  •  Identify best practices for working with translators, interpreters, and bilingual staff in your school.
