Step into the future of teacher preparation! This presentation describes the challenges of teaching science to multilingual learners and proposes innovative technology to create safe environments where future and new teachers are able to practice new skills. Using science education as a context, pre-service and novice teachers in the study engaged in a structured, two-cycle research process designed to refine their teaching techniques in a risk-free, mixed-reality environment. The presentation will share preliminary findings and invite participants to interact with student avatars in a mixed-reality environment.
Participants will also explore the advantages and limitations of the use of such technologies in teacher preparation. Those who join the session can expect an interactive opportunity to discuss, explore, and gain knowledge of strategies that support the instruction of multilingual learners in ways that integrate language and content.
